Which create the acceleration, electric field or a magnetic field, if an electron beam in an oscilloscope gets deflected to the right on a screen? Explain.

Answer #1

There are generally two types of plates in oscilloscope, horizontal plates and vertical plates. The main porpose of CRO is to deflect the electron beam from left to right and top to bottom. Both the deflection produced by applying electric field between the plates. If we talk about horizontal deflection of beam, it is time based and produced with the help of time based signal (sawtooth wave) so that it moves from left to right and again comes to left after a cycle.

The sawtooth waveform is used as beam jumps from right side of CRO to left side without taking anytime.

Magnetic Force on a Moving Charge A velocity selector is a simple configuration of electric and magnetic fields that allows only those ions of a particular velocity in a narrow beam of ions to pass through it. A constant electric field E is oriented perpendicularly to a constant magnetic field B. The beam passes through the fields in the third direction, i.e., perpendicular to both E and B. Faraday's law states that a changing magnetic field will create an electric field that curls around the magnetic field. To quantify this, we use the expression of flux (Φ) which is the magnetic field strength multiplied by the area (A) it’s passing through. This is given by: Φ = ?? The electric field is applied to the outside edge of this area. This created an electric potential that is referred to as an electro-motive force (EMF, ε). Faraday’s law can...
