Experiment to make waves of different interference patterns with water, sound, and light. Use your own words and captured images from the simulation to show you can meet learning goal A: “Create an interference pattern with two sources, and determine the ways to change the pattern.”

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Take to pins, keep them seperated by a small distance in a water tank. start moving the pins up and down simulataneously.

you can see the water ripples in the tank, these waves superpose and form the interference pattern. this pattern can be photographed or the shadow of the pattern can be formed on the paper kept at bottom of the tank by using an electtric bulb to over the tank.

if the two pins move simultaneously up and down you can see the interference pattern, in this case central band ( equidistant from both the pins) is maxima i.e., bright

if one pin moves up and the other move down then the interference pattern completely changes. in this case the central band is minima i.e. dark.
