Calculate the average speed of a complete round trip in which the outgoing 240 km is covered at 92 km/h, followed by a 1.0-h lunch break, and the return 240 km is covered at 60 km/h .Find the average velocity of the trip.

Answer #1

To find the average speed, we need the distance traveled (480 km) and the total time elapsed

average speed Vavg = ( distance traveled )/ ( Δt )

total distance is = 240 km + 240 km = 480 km

outgoing time  = 240 km is covered at 92 km/h = 240 km / 92 km/h = 2.609 hours

return time = 240 km is covered at 60 km/h =( 240 km ) / (60 km/H ) = 4 H

total time ( Δt ) including lunch = ( 2.609 H ) + ( 4 H )+ ( 1.0 H ( lunch) )= 7.609 H

now ,average speed =(480 km) / ( 7.609 H )= 63.08 km/H

ans is average speed is = 63.08 km/H

now average velocity = total displacement for complete trip / time = ΔX / Δt =

average velocity = (240 km - 240 km ) / 7.609 H = 0/ 7.609 H = 0

average velocity = 0

answers

average speed = 63.08 km/H

average velocity = 0
