A transformer has 380 primary turns and 1140 secondary turns. The input voltage is 120 V and the output current is 16.5A . Assume 100% efficiency.

A) What is the output voltage?

B) What is the input current?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Np = number of primary turns = 380

Ns = number of secondary turns = 1140

Ep = input Voltage = 120 V

Is = 16.5 A

Ip = input current

Es = output voltage

since efficiency is 100%

so Es Is = Ep Ip

Es Is = 120 * Ip

Es = 120 * (Ip/Is)

Es = 120 * (Ns/Np)                    ( since Ip/Is = Ns/Np )

Es = 120 * (1140/380)

Es = 360 V

B)

using Es Is = Ep IP

(360) (16.5) = 120* Ip

Ip = 49.5 A
