As we know ,Cs137 is a radioactive material which emit beta and gamma radiation. The presence of the absorber will lead to the less passing of the rays to the detector, Hence the intensity of the gamma rays at the detector decrease significantly in presence of thick lead absorber and therefore one cannot find the original intensity of gamma rays emitted by Cs137 in presence of the absorber.
Lead, being a good absorber of these radiations, is also used to make the compartments for experiments dealing with such radioactive materials.
