Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given: 20 mg/kg a day (40 mg/kg in otitis media) in three divided doses

Convert pounds to kg= 35lb x (1/2.2)= 15.9~ 16kg

Dose in mg= 16 x 20 mg/kg/day

= 320 mg/day

Weight in pounds is converted to kilograms (kg) by dividing by 2.205. Weight in kg is then divided into the daily mg dose of medication to give the dose calculated as mg/kg/d.

gives Dose=1.26 mg/kg/d

No 250 mg of cefalor every 8 hours not correct for this child

A dosage of 250 mg i very close to the recommended per dose dosage for this child. Therefore an order of 250 mg not correct for this child.
