A copper container m=125g has 175g of water and 22g of ice. initial temp 0C. lead m=688 is heated to 235C and placed in container. After reaching equlibrium what is the final temp?
Solution:
Using the heat conduction:
Heat lost by lead = heat gained by copper + heat gained by water + heat gained by ice
mlclT = mcccT + mwcwT + m1L +miciT
0.688*128*[235-T] = 0.125*385[T - 0] + 0.175*4190*[T - 0] + [0.022*3.34*105] + 0.022*4190[T - 0]
20695.04 - 88.064 T = 48.125 T + 733.25 T + 7348 + 92.18 T
961.619 T = 13347.04
T = 13.87975
= 14oC.
