Water at a pressure of 15 bar at a temperature of 30°C enters a boiler, where it is heated to 250°C at constant pressure. Steam leaving the boiler passes into a throttle which reduces the pressure to 10 bar. The steam is then passed through a small turbine, exiting at atmospheric pressure at 110°C. Please draw a schematic diagram. 1. How much heat is added per kg to the water by the boiler? 2. Find the temperature of the steam leaving the throttle. 3. If the turbine produces 15kW of work, find the mass flowrate of steam through the system.

temperature of 320 [◦C] with negligible velocity. The steam exits
the nozzle at a pressure of 15 [bar] and a velocity of 10 [m/s].
The mass flow rate is 2.5 [kg/s]. Assume the nozzle is well
insulated.
Determine the exit temperature of the steam.

Steam at 4.5 MPa and 500 C enters the turbine with a velocity of
60 m/s and its mass flow rate is 5,000 kg/h. The steam leaves the
turbine at a point 3m below the turbine inlet with a velocity of
350 m/s. The heat loss from the turbine is 100,000 kJ/hr and the
shaft work produced is 950hp. A small portion of the exhaust steam
from the turbine is passed through a throttling valve and
discharges at atmospheric pressure....

2. A geothermal power plant is supplied with water at 260°C and
a pressure of 10 MPa. The fluid flows to a flash unit, exiting as
liquid and vapor streams at 0.5 bar. Vapor from the flash unit is
fed to a turbine. The turbine exit pressure is 0.02 bar. The
overall turbine efficiency is 0.83. Calculate the thermal
efficiency, the heat rate, and steam and water mass flow rates
required for an output of 5 MW.
