Discuss practical applications of the Monin-Obukhov theory, pointing out: quantities that can
be obtained by its application and the necessary input information, the idea of the profile method.
The M-O theory is used to study the atmospheric surface layer. According to M-O theory flow and turbulence characteristics in the surface layer depend only on the surface momentum flux which is measured by stability parameters ( friction velocity, buoyancy flux, and height).
Practical application -
M–O similarity theory provides a theoretical basis for micrometerological experiments. It is generally used to estimate the surface turbulent fluxes in atmospheric models for weather forecasting, climate modeling, air quality etc. using mean wind speed and temperature profile.
