Centripetal acceleration

when an object moves in a circular motion

its velocity keeps on changing its direction and accelerates towards the center

so for an object to move in a cirular motion , it is required to have a centripetal force towards the center

for example

a)

For a swingball (or tetherball) game,

the tension in the string provides a centripetal acceleration

b)

For a satellite, it is the force of gravity.

c)

For a car moving around a corner, it is the frictional force between the car and the road.

If you remove that force,

the centripetal acceleration is removed

and

if the centripetal acceleration is removed , the object will continue in a straight line tangent to the circle.
