3.1. A flat coil of wire consists of 500 turns each 4 cm in diameter. If a current of 5

amperes flows in the coil, calculate:-

(a) the magnetic moment of the coil;

(b) the magnetostatic potential at a point 50 cm from the coil along its axis in a

direction related by a right-hand screw to the sense of current circulation;

(c) the magnetostatic potential at a point in the plane of the coil 5 metres away;

(d) the torque experienced by the coil if placed with its axis making an angle of 60° to a field of a magnetic induction of 2 Tesla;

(e) the force acting on the coil due to an identical coil arranged coaxially one metre away, carrying the same current.
