Assuming that a person made an effort to jump high into the air, the peak height of their CM will be larger than when they are just standing still. That is, they will jump higher than they squatted. Therefore, the increase in gravitational potential energy will be larger than the energy stored from the decrease in gravitational potential energy when the person squatted. Where does the extra energy come from?
A person needs to put in efforts to jump , that is a person uses his mechanical energy to jump . Thus the extra energy required to overcome the change in potential energy is provided by the mechanical energy of the body which is nothing but the chemical energy released by digestion of food . This is the reason if you keep on jumping , then you get tired / fatigued because the energy stored in your body is being used up and now you need to re energize yourself before continuing with the excercise (jumping).
