Draw a schematic and clearly indicate the components of a compound microscope. In a compound microscope, why must the objective lens (or objective + Tube lens) be a converging lens (or lens system)?

Answer #1

Above is the schematic diagram of the compound microscope. The image A'B' of the object AB is acting as an object for the eyepiece. The image A'B' must be real to act as an object. So, if the objective is the diverging lens, then A'B' will be a virtual image and can't act as an object for the eyepiece. So the microscope won't work. Therefore, the objective lens must be converting to produce a real image A'B'.

Choose the correct statement regarding a compound microscope being used to look at a mite. The eyepiece lens forms a real image of the mite. The converging objective lens forms a virtual image of the mite. The eyepiece lens forms a virtual image of the mite. If the focal distance of the objective lens is shortened, then its magnification decreases. The mite should be located at the focal point of the objective lens.

A compound microscope consists of two converging lenses: an objective lens, and an eyepiece placed 15 cm behind it. The microscope magnifies a tiny object 0.25 cm in front of the objective lens, forming an enlarged final image at the near point N = 25 cm of a normal human eye. Part A) The focal length of the eye piece is fe = 5  cm. Neglecting the distance between the human eye and the eyepiece, what is the focal length fo...

Build a microscope that can double the size of an object. We need to choose two converging lenses from these available lenses with focal lengths 2,4,8, and 12 meters. First choose an objective lens focal length, and a distance to place the object from the lens. Then choose an eyepiece lens focal length and a distance to place the lens from the objective lens.
