Explain how you could add thin metal filters to the dosimeter in front of its detector to determine the type and energy of the radiation detected. (Hint: Think about the ranges of different particles with various energies.)

The thin metal filter consists of varying grain size to affect its sensitivity to incident radiation . These radiations can include gamma rays, x rays etc. These rays have different energies and different attenuation.

Based on the energy of a specific radiation, the energetic photons are attenuated by the absorber material. The radiation will make a layer on the filter and then this filter can be analyzed  the energy of radiation to which the dosimeter was exposed.
