  1. You shoot an arrow from a compound bow straight up into the air, and it goes 7.6 m above the height you shot it from before it falls back down. If you now shoot the arrow at a 22° angle above the horizontal, what will its new maximum height be?

Answer #1

Solution:

From the information given,

Step-1:

Find the initial velocity from case-1 of vertical,

Using kinematics,

v2 - u2 = 2aHmax,

Given v = 0, a = -9.81m/s2. and Hmax = 7.6 m

02 - u2 = 2*-9.81*7.6

u = 12.2 m/s.

Step-2:

For the projectile with initial velocity at an angle = 22o.

Hmax = u2Sin2/2g

= 12.22Sin222o/2*9.81

= 1.07 m.
