A transformer has an input of 17 V and an output of 46 V. If the input is changed to 76 V, what the output would be? Calculate to one decimal.
Solution
Step1.
For Ideal transformer, ΦP = ΦS (Flux linkage in the primary and secondary are equal)
Thus, for ideal tranformer
NP /NS =VP /VS= Turn Ratio .............(1)
where, NP = Number of Primary Winding(Turns)
NS = Number of Secondary Winding(Turns)
VP = Primary Voltage(Input Voltage)
VS = Secondary Voltage(Output Voltage)
Step2.
Given: Case1 VP= 17V, VS =46V
From equation (1), we have
Turn Ratio=17/46 ........(2)
Case 2 VP =76V, VS=VO
From equation (1), we have
Turn Ratio=76/VO .........(3)
Step 3.
from equation (2) and (3), we have
VO =(76*46)/17=205.6V
Output is 205.6V
