A wheel of diameter 0.35 m is rotating at 2700 rpm.

Calculate its angular velocity in radians per second. Use 'rad/s' for your units.

What is the linear speed of a point on the edge of this wheel?

What is the linear acceleration of a point on the edge of this wheel?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:-

Given –

Diameter (D) = 0.35 m; radius(r) = 0.35m/2 = 0.175

a) Calculate angular velocity

ω = 2700 rpm * (2*π / 60)

ω = 282 rad/s

b) Calculate linear speed

Using formula,

V = r*ω

Substitute given values in above formulas

V = 0.175 * 282 rad/s

V = 49.45 m/s

c) Calculate linear acceleration

a = r*ω^2; a = v^2 / r

Substitute given values in above formula

a = (49.45) ^2 / 0.175

a = 13973 m/s^2

Result:-

a) angular velocity = 282 rad/s

b) linear speed = 49.45 m/s

c) linear acceleration = 13973 m/s^2
