Suppose you jumped onto your bathroom scale. The scale initially indicate a high weight and then settle down to your actual weight. Is this statement true or false? Could you please explain why this statement is true or why this is false?

Answer #1

because when we jumped onto the scale, then the change of momentum is quite large and since it changed in a very short inetrval of time so the force acting on the scale ia quite large. The above explanation can be described mathematically as follow

F = change in momentum / time

since force is directly proportional to momentum change and inversely proportional to time, so force acting on scale must be considerably high.
