If every person on Earth picked up a hammer simultaneously, and raised it to approximately their height, would the total mass of the planet increase?

If so by approximately how much?    Please state your assumptions clearly and show your work.

Answer #1

If every person on Earth picked up a hammer simultaneously, and raised it to approximately their height, the total mass of the planet would not increase because the potential energy gained by the hammers have been achieved due to the work done by people and the energy stored in their body have been utilised to do work , so it's a simple conversion of energy from one form to another . Moreover nothing has been added to the earth -person-hammer system , so there is no point of getting the mass changed of the planet.

In short , the mass of the planet would not change at all.

1) If a person holds 50 kg object at a height of 2 m above the floor for 10 s. How much work is done? W = F×d (2) The work done in lifting 30kg of bricks to a height of 20m is W = m ×g × d (Formula, W = F × d but Force = m × g) (3) A total of 4900 J is used to lift a 50-kg mass. The Assignment: Water at a pressure of 15 bar at a temperature of 30°C enters a boiler, where it is heated to 250°C at constant pressure. Steam leaving the boiler passes into a throttle which reduces the pressure to 10 bar. The steam is then passed through a small turbine, exiting at atmospheric pressure at 110°C. Please draw a schematic diagram. 1. How much heat is added per kg to the water by the boiler? 2. Find the temperature of...
