Beatrice needs to drag her 36 kg suitcase by tying a rope to it in order to drag it along the floor. She pulls with a force of 135 N at 38 degrees with horizontal and the floor being inclined at 3 degrees with horizontal. The coefficients of static and kinetic friction between the suitcase and the floor are 0.273 and 0.117 respectively. a) Find if the suitcase slides then determine its acceleration. If it does not slide find the pulling force necessary to make it slide.

Beatrice (of example 3.8 in our thick textbook) is dragging a 40.5 lbf suitcase across the floor by the means of a rope. Starting from rest, she managed to give the suitcase an acceleration of 0.6 m/s2 to get it going, by pulling on the rope with a force of 57.6 N at a 22.5o angle up relative to the horizontal floor. What is the coefficient of friction between the floor and the suitcase?
