Homework Answers

Answer #1

Let the initial capacity of the tank is x gallons

255 was used for mixing , after which we are left with 15,000 gallons.

so the equation

So , total capacity is 20,000 gallons, at present it has 15,000 gallons.

So (20,000-15,000)=5000 gallons is the refill amount.

Now the rate is 3,000gph.

So

30000 gallons=1hr

so, 1gallons =1hr/3000

so 5000gallons= (1hr/3000)*5000

So time is 5/3 hr.

converting it into minutes

1hr=60min

so,

(5/3)hr= (5/3)*60minutes

therefore Time = 100 minutes
