Mars does not have a large moon like the Earth does. Thinking back to the documentary “If We Had No Moon”, what do you think the lack of a large Moon will mean in terms of the stability of Mars’s climate in the future?
Because of a large moon the axis of rotation of Earth has a fixed tilt that changes very slowly. Because of this slowly changing tilt the climate on Earth remain stabilized for millions of years as exposure to sun remains same at every point on Earth. Same seasons occur every year at any particular place. Mars does not have a moon so the tilt changes chaotically between 0 and 90 degrees. Because of this chaotically changing tilt sun exposure varies at any particular location on moon causing a destabilized climate.
A large moon also protects Earth from asteroids.
