A truck makes a sharp turn and a box falls out of the truck bed. THis is best explained by?

Answer #1

Generally, the reason that the box in the truck bed would move with the truck is due to friction between the box and the bed. If there is no friction, there is no force to push the box along, and it remains at rest. The truck accelerated away, essentially leaving the box behind!!

Also, In an inertial frame everything makes more sense. The ball has no force on it, and goes straight as required by Newton's first law. The truck has a force on it from the asphalt, and responds to it by accelerating (changing the direction of its velocity vector) as Newton's second law says it should.

A box rests on top of a flat bed truck. The box has a mass of m = 18 kg. The coefficient of static friction between the box and truck is μs = 0.8 and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the box and truck is μk = 0.61. 1)The truck accelerates from rest to vf = 17 m/s in t = 13 s (which is slow enough that the box will not slide). What is the acceleration of the...

A heavy bar falls straight down onto the bed of a horizontally rolling truck. What happens to the momentum of the truck at the instant the bar lands on it? How many correct answers do you think are possible? Make sure you think of what "falls straight down" means. When the bar falls straight down, it has zero velocity in the horizontal direction either with respect to the truck or with respect to Earth. However, the behavior of the truck...

A pickup truck is carrying a 11.0 kgkg toolbox, but the tailgate of the truck is missing, so the box can slide out if it starts moving. The coefficients of static and kinetic friction between the toolbox and the truck bed are 0.34 and 0.15, respectively. Assume that the truck bed is horizontal. What is the shortest time the truck could take to accelerate from rest to 10.4 m/sm/s without causing the toolbox to slide?

When a fighter pilot makes a very quick turn, he experiences a centripetal acceleration. When this acceleration is greater than about 8 ⨯ g, the pilot will usually lose consciousness ("black out"). Consider a pilot flying at a speed of 826 m/s (about 1848 mi/h) who wants to make a very sharp turn. What is the minimum radius of curvature he can take without blacking out?

PHILOSOPHY 6. Lisa has become very cold. She can hardly walk out of bed. To their surprise, Lisa becomes healthy after drinking birch leaves for just three days. She therefore thanks Jasmin and states that the birch tree tea has cured the cold. Does Lisa have a good reason to draw this conclusion? Is her conclusion reasonable?...

The hospital was founded in 1972 and today is acknowledged to be one of the leading healthcare providers in the area. Twin Falls’ management is currently evaluating a proposed ambulatory (outpatient) surgery center. Over 80 percent of all outpatient...

Activity 1: Scientific Reports You may have heard the question “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” A similar question can be asked about experiments. “If a researcher performs an experiment and never publishes the result has science been performed?” Many people would say no because science is the accumulation of knowledge. If the results of an experiment are not published, knowledge is not gained. The final...
