Two objects are dropped from the same height on earth. One has a mass three times greater than the other one. If they are dropped at the same time, assuming no air resistance, which of the following statements is true?
The acceleration is the same for both objects, but the force on the lighter object is greater.
The lighter object experiences one-third the force of the heavier object, but the acceleration of the two objects are the same.
The lighter object is initially faster, but the heavier object will eventually catch-up with it.
The heavier object will experience a greater acceleration.
The lighter object will experience a greater acceleration.

Answer #1

Ans -The lighter object experiences one-third the force of the heavier object, but the acceleration of the two objects are the same.

As the acceleration of the two objects is equal to the acceleration due to gravity (I e. g=9.8 m/s^2) and we know that acceleration due to gravity doesn't depends on the mass of the body.

On the other hand force on each object is equal to product of mass and acceleration due to gravity (i.e. F= m×g).So heavy object experience more force.

In given problem ,the lightest object have three time less mass than to the heaviest object.so the force experience by the lightest object is one third the force on the heaviest object.
