Do you want your egg drop to be made out of lots of toothpicks and glue so that it is rock solid and will not bend or break? Yes or no, and EXPLAIN WHY? (Use the terms Impluse, Force, Time and Momentum)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

No, my egg drop should not be solid but it should be flexible and it should bend.

My design should have maximize the air drag or air resistance and minimise the impact.

Egg has to take more time during the fall so that overall impulse or force of impact decreases.

My design should absorb and deflect the force of impact. Impact force should be distributed over a larger area so that egg will be safe.

What I will conclude is one has to manipulate time of fall and time of impact so that egg will be safe.

Part A: If you throw a raw egg against a wall you’ll break it, but if you throw it with the same speed into a sagging sheet it won’t break. Why? 1. The velocity of the egg decrease factor in the sheet than on the wall. 2. The breaking egg causes a larger impact time, decreasing the force. 3. The sheet is much slicker than the wall. 4. The impact time when the egg strikes a sagging sheet is long,...

Suppose the earth is a perfect sphere, spinning with its usual angular velocity, Ω. You are ~ standing on the surface of the earth, at 40 degrees N latitude, and you drop a rock. If you draw a line from the rock to the center of the earth, it would intersect the ground at a point X. 1. As you are sitting at your desk, you look out your window and notice a new species of animal. You see that there are lots of individuals of this species and they range in size from about 1g to 1000g. They are transparent and so...

You want to find out whether year in school affects students’ time spent studying. To do so, you split your sample of n=100 students into 4 different groups: Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors and measure how long the students study each week. What are the null and alternative hypotheses for this example?
