ASSIGN each observation to one of the Newton’s Laws and explain it in terms of that law.

Law 1 = A; Law 2 = B; Law 3 = C.

1. A puck on ice slides almost all the way across an ice rink while it travels only a short distance on a rough floor.

2. When you throw a rock, you feel a force pushing back against you and you must maintain your balance. If you are in a boat, the boat will actually move back in the water.

3. The puck doesn’t move on the ice at all until a player hits it with a hockey stick.

4. A bowling ball will easily knock over any pins that it hits, but when you drop it, it does not cause the earth to move (much).
