Although it is not necessary to fix one end of a meter stick exactly at the speaker, but we should keep it as near as possible. The phase changes one can detect between the speaker voltage and meter stick are due to the variation in how long traveling between the speaker and microphone takes us. If the distance between the speaker and meter sticks is increased enough to change the consecutive two sine wave by full cycle relative to each other , the distance increase will be equal to one wavelength .
