If the mass of the Sun is 1029 Kg, and its total life is 109 years, what average power dissipates per year (MW-year (mega watts))? Base your response exclusively on the p-p cycle (proton-proton)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Mass of the sun is

M = 1029 Kg.

Total life time is

t = 109 years.

The total energy that the sun has to burn requires a little extra knowledge (for example some nuclear physics) to understand. we know that the sun shines via nuclear reactions in the core that that transfer four hydrogen atoms in to one helium atom. From periodic table we can see that one helium atom has a little mass than four hydrogen atoms combined about 0.7% of the original mass has disappeared this missing mass gets transformed in to energy. And this is the energy the causes the sun to shine.
