Why is that marble floor appears colder than cemented floor in winter though both are at the same temperature
The marble floor appears colder than cemented floor in winter though both are at the same temperature. The reason behind this is that the tendency of one material to seem colder than the other depends upon the thermal conductivity of that material. The marble is denser than the cementitious material hence the difference in feeling even though both floors are at the same temperature. There are more air spaces in the cement than the marble. Each of these air spaces acts to reduce thermal conductivity of the cement as opposed to the marble. As a result of this, thermal conductivity of cement floor becomes low as compared to the marble. Therefore, marble floor appears colder than cemented floor in winter at the same temperature.
