Error Propagation:

Experiment was to find the dimensions of a table. We were given 50 sets of values.

From those values, I found the mean and standard deviation.

Dimensions., cm Mean Value, cm Standard Deviation, cm Error (stand. dev. of mean), cm
Width 75.94 1.096 0.0219
Length 182.2 1.184 0.0237

What I need:

1. Error or standard deviation of the mean for both length and width. Which is the equation: standard deviation/50.

For width I got 0.0219 cm

Length is 0.0237 cm.

2. The area of the table using the means. I got 13836.268 cm2.

3. Calculate the error in the area. This is where I am completely lost. We were not given a true value.

This is an online physics lab. Our entire class is confused and the TA seems unavailable. I've completed the lab, I just need my numbers checked and then total help with the error of the area. I calculated it...and then I seem to be lost. I have never taken physics in my life, keep that in mind!

Question 1 A group of students is told to use a meter stick to find the width of a physics lab room. They reported 6 independent measurements: 4.402 m, 4.217 m, 4.345 m, 4.925 m, 4.372 m, 4.289 m. How should they report their best estimate? (note: don’t forget to look for outliers and any extra decimal places) Group of answer choices W = (4.33 ± 0.03) m W = (4.325 ± 0.073) m W = (4.43 ± 0.25) m...
