  1. A bar of gold is in thermal contact with a bar of silver of the same length and area as shown in fig 2. One end of the compound bar is maintained at 80.0°C while the opposite end is at 30.0°C. When the energy transfer reaches steady state, what is the temperature at the junction?

****** I HAVE THE SOLUTION BUT I WANT TO KNOW HOW THEY DETERMINE THE FINAL AND INITIAL TEMPERATURE *******

why they choose ( 80 - T ) & (T-30 ) instead of doing opposite ? can ypu explain ? I mean not doing like ( T-80 ) (30-T ) or changing one of them only ?

A heat-conducting rod, 0.90 m long and wrapped in insulation, is made of an aluminum section that is 0.20 m long and a copper section that is .70m long. Both sections have a cross-sectional area of .000040m2. The aluminum end and the copper end are maintained at temperatures of 30 degrees C and 230 degrees C respectively. The thermal conductivities of aluminum and copper are 205 W/m ∙ K (aluminum) and 385 W/m ∙ K (copper). What is the temperature...
