Billy is a collegiate long jump athlete who wants to increase his jump distance (assume he can already jump quite a long distance)If you could work on only one of the following parameters (release speed, release angle, or release height), which one would you advise him to focus on? Explain why.

Answer #1

We have the equation for the maximum range of a prijectile motion( such as a long jump).

R= u² sin(2à ) / g

Where u is the release speed, à is the release angle and g is the acceleration due to gravity.

So the variable parameters for the maximum range are just release speed and release angle and we must work on any of that.

I would advise him to focus more on his release angle. Release speed can only be brought up by constat practice building up strength and it takes time.

So focusing on release angle is the best way to maximize your range in short time.

Sin(2à) should be maximum for maximum range.

So. Sin ( 2à) = 1

2à= sin-¹ 1

2à= 90°,or release angle , à = 90/2 = 45°

So inorder to maximize range he should focus on making his release angle 45° .
