State the necessary and sufficient conditions for a system to be in equilibrium and indicate how could you be sure if a system is in equilibrium.
For the system to be in equilibrium there are two conditions
1) Net force acting on the system in all directions should be zero.
In this situation acceleration of the body is zero. It means that either the body will be having zero velocity or constant velocity.
2) Net torque acting on the object should be zero.
That is rate of rotation of the body is constant or it will be at rest.
Both of these conditions should be satisfied for the equilibrium of the body.
