The soldiers are now board (and because I am running out of plot ideas…), they decide to fashion a clock out of a spring and mass. They know they have a spring with a 550 N/m spring constant… they probably took it from a jeep. They are hanging the spring from a tree.. it’s going to be the new clock tower of the camp.

a) If they want it to have a frequency of 60 cycles/sec, what mass should they put on the spring?

b) What is the force on the spring (what force is acting on it)?

c) How far does it stretch?

d) What is the potential energy stored in it?

e) what is its period?

f) If lightning struck the new “Clock Tower”, would you donate money to save it?
