A bullet of mass 20g is fired from a rifle of mass 4kg into a sandbag of mass 10kg. It takes 1.53 seconds for the bullet to strike and become embedded in the sandbag. The sandbag’s velocity increases from rest to 1.7 m/s when struck by the bullet. The rifle recoils and is brought to rest by the firer's shoulder in a distance of 30mm. Assume the bullet travels in a straight line and air resistance is negligible. Calculate:

i) the velocity of the bullet on leaving the rifle.

ii) the distance between the rifleman and the sandbag.

ii) the average recoil force on the firer's shoulder.

A 0.026-kg bullet is accelerated from rest to a speed of 565 m/s in a 3.2-kg rifle. The pain of the rifle’s kick is much worse if you hold the gun loosely a few centimeters from your shoulder rather than holding it tightly against your shoulder. For this problem, use a coordinate system in which the bullet is moving in the positive direction. a. Calculate the recoil velocity of the rifle if it is held loosely away from the shoulder....
