Sperficial/othovoltage uses x-rays while Co-60 uses gamma ray.

Sperficial/othovoltage uses x-rays produced by x-ray tube to diagnostic radiography and are used in external beam radiotherapy to treat cancer and tumors. Cobalt 60 uses gamma ray to destroy tomour.

Radiation coming from these devices is used to destroy the the DNA of cancerous cell and hence cell cann't further reproduce. The main limitation of these radiation method is that the healthy cells are also destryoed by this.
