Solution:

let total time taken by liya to cover the distance = t

Now liya walks half the time distance covered = d1

=> d1 = v * t/2

=> d1 = 3.90 * t/2

=> d1 = 1.95 t ...........(i)

liya runs half the other half,

=> d2 = 8.80 * t/2

=> d2 = 4.4*t ............(ii)

adding equation (i) and (ii)

=> 5 = 6.35 * t

=> t = 0.787 hour

=> t = 47.2 minutes

speed = total distance / total time

=> speed = 5 / 0.7874

=> speed = 6.35 miles/hour
