Two space ships s1 and s2 are approaching earth from opposite directions with speeds v1= 0.8 c and v2= -0.6c both relative to earth. s1 is 8 light minutes to the left of earth and s2 is 6 light minutes to the right of the earth.

a) what is the velocity of s1 as measured by s2?

b) how long will it take for the space ships to reach earth as measured by someone on earth?
