A 10 lb block of iron sinks in water. How small would you have to cut it into so it floats? Please Explain
Apparent weight of any object in water is given by
W = volume of object * Acceleration due to gravity* ( density of iron - density of water)
W = Vg ( sigma - rho)
As we know density is constant for small or big piece of a certain element, hence density of iron always greater than water hence the object always sinks irrespective of its size.
So whtever would be the dimension of the iron piece it sinks in the water always.
