From politics to sports we often here the phrase that “side A has sized the momentum” and thus seems likely to win the subsequent encounter. Can you think of a simple physics example, that illustrates “seizing the momentum”? What is the encounter, and what does winning mean in your example?
Okay, there are a lot, like really a lot of example out there which explains seizing the momentum.
My favourite sport is soccer (Football). My favourite player is Lionel Messi. So, let's assume that a match is going on. Messi is trying to gain control over the ball. He suddenly starts sprinting. Here as he sprints, he is gaining momentum as his velocity is increasing. In this way, messi will go near the ball and will seize the ball from the opponent (this is his encounter with the ball and the opponent). Now again, messi runs with the ball towards the goal and there is an impulse (change in momentum) means messi has seized the momentum as compared to the opponent. Now, comes the winning moment, messi shoots the ball and score a goal.
so, what has happened here ? Messi was able to score the goal because he seized the momentum.
