What is the equilibrium temperature if a 0.530 kg piece of copper at 283 degC is placed in a 0.390 kg aluminum cup with 4.10 kg of water at the same initial temperature of 21.0 degC?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

here,

mass of copper ,m1 = 0.53 kf

mass of alumunium cup , m2 = 0.39 kg

mass of water , mw = 4.1 kg

specific heat of copper , Cc = 385 J/kg

specific heat of alumunium , Ca = 900 J/kg

specific heat of water , Cw = 4186 J/kg

let the final temprature be Tf

using conservation of heat energy

m1 * Cc * ( 283 - Tf) = m2 * Ca * ( Tf - 21) + m3 * Cw * ( Tf - 21)

0.53 * 385 * ( 283 - Tf) = 0.39 * 900 * ( Tf - 21) + 4.1 * 4186 * ( Tf - 21)

solving for Tf

Tf = 24 degree C

the equilibrium temprature is 24 degree C
