hello,
Can you please give me examples of sound reflection and refraction that we use in every day life? I am particularly interested in the refraction concept. Thanks
Sound reflection most famous example is echo . Sound reflection property is also used in many device like sthethoscope in which sound generated from organ travels through tube and after multiple reflection reaches ears.
Sound refraction - A very common sound refraction effect is observed near water bodies at dawn. Due to Temperature differece between upper air and air near water body, any sound traveling from lower air to upper air gets bended back towards lower air.becuase upper air is warmer due to sun rise, and sound travels faster in high temperature .So air bends sound toward air at low temperarue . So faint sounds can also be heard near water bodies at dawn.
This effect also explains why traffic noises are louder and can be heard from farther.
