What are the dependant and independent variables during a physics experiment using a rotational system to measure moments of inertia (adding weights to the rotating object and also to a hanging weight attached by a string). Newton's rotational second law being used here: Torque = (moment of inertia) * (angular acceleration)

Answer #1

dependent variables : variable whose value depend upon other variables

independent variables : variable whose value does not depend upon other variables

now in given case, added mass is independent variable because its value does not depend upon other and is constant but moment of inertia depend upon mass added so moment on inertia is dependent variable

in this experiment, independent variable(mass) is changed to know its effect on dependent variable(moment of inertia)

in newton second law, torque is given by experimenter so independent variable and angular acceleraton depend upon the torque applied so it is dependent variable

MOMENT OF INERTIA LAB Apparatus Only (P3) With Masses (P4) With Block (P5) Setup You have a T-shaped apparatus that can spin about a vertical axis. One end of a light string is wrapped around the vertical shaft of the apparatus. The other end passes over a pulley and has a known mass hung from it to establish tension in the string. By measuring the acceleration of the hanging mass, the rotational inertia of the apparatus can be determined. Specifically,...

1. You are being hunted by a raptor. It corners you, and begins to charge, qt a velocity of 20 m/s. You have constructed a trap. It consists of a trip wire that will knock the raptor down and transfer all of its KE to a phaser rifle that requires 80 kJ of energy to fire directly at your foe. If the raptor has a mass of 150 kg, will the rifle gain enough energy to fire? a)no b)not enough...

Please answer all, Thank you. 1. A firework is designed so that when it is fired directly upwards, it explodes and splits into three equal-massed parts at its peak. Someone launches the firework directly upwards and measures the locations of two of the pieces of the firework. They find that one piece landed 2 meters to the left and another piece landed two meters in front of them. Where did the third piece of land? 2. A Newton's cradle is...
