4.8. A long solenoid consists of 1000 turns of wire wound on an air-filled cylindrical former of length 50 cm and diameter 5 cm. A secondary coil consisting of 50 turns is wound tightly around the centre of this coil. Assume flux linkage of 1.

(a) Calculate the self inductance of the primary coil.

(b) Calculate the mutual inductance of the coils.

(c) If a current of magnitude 2 amperes and frequency 50 Hz flows in the primary circuit, calculate the magnitude of the induced electromotive force in the secondary coil. What is the phase relationship between current and induced electromotance?

Two coils are wound around the same cylindrical form. When the current in the first coil is decreasing at a rate of -0.242 A/s, the induced emf in the second coil has magnitude 1.65 x 10-3 V and the mutual inductance of the two coils is 6.82 mH.
