2) What are the magnitude and direction of the electric force on charge C in the figure attached? Express the direction by using + or - signs.(Example: +2.3N, -5.2 N)

3) What is the strength (magnitude) of the electric field at the position indicated by the dot in the figure attached?

4) A parallel-plate capacitor consists of two plates, each with an area of 36 cm2, separated by 9.0 mm. The charge on the capacitor is 2.1 nC. An electron is released from rest next to the negative plate. How long does it take for the electron to reach the positive plate? Exoress your answer in

* Please show your work I have a quiz of the material and the answers I got are wrong for these three questions. Thank you!

There are images that go with the questions but I am unable to upload them because chegg is telling me they dont have a url so Im not sure what to do. If you comment I will try to add them that way otherwise Im not sure what to do.

Answer #1

4)

A = area of parallel plates = 36 cm2 = 36 x 10-4 m2

d = distance between the plates = 9 mm = 9 x 10-3 m

Q = charge on the plate = 2.1 x 10-9 C

capacitance is given as

C = A/d = (8.85 x 10-12) (36 x 10-4)/(9 x 10-3) = 3.54 x 10-12 F

V = potential difference between the plates = Q/C = (2.1 x 10-9)/(3.54 x 10-12) = 593.22 Volts

E = electric field = V/d = 593.22/(9 x 10-3) = 6.6 x 104 N/C

a = acceleration = qE/m = (1.6 x 10-19) (6.6 x 104)/(9.1 x 10-31) = 1.2 x 1016 m/s2

distance travelled is given as

d = (0.5) a t2

9 x 10-3 = (0.5) (1.2 x 1016) t2

t = 1.22 x 10-9 sec
