A tank containing compressed air is initially at 34.8 atmospheres. After some air is removed from the tank, the pressure has decreased to 4.9 atm. What fraction of the original air remains in the tank? Pressures are gauge pressures. The volume of the tank is constant; assume the temperature stays constant also.

Air is pumped into a bicycle tire. The 41 moles of air initially in the tire have a gauge pressure of 1 atm. How many moles of air must be pumped into the tire in order to raise the gauge pressure to 5 atm? Assume that the volume and temperature of the air inside the tire are approximately constant. Ive tried both 205 moles and 164 moles and both come up as incorrect. Not sure why.

A tank of 0.1 m3 volume initially containing nitrogen at 25 C and 1 bar will be filled with compressed nitrogen at a rate of 20 mol/s. The nitrogen coming from the compressor and into the tank is at an absolute pressure of 110 bar and a temperature of 80 C. The filling process occurs sufficiently rapidly that there is negligible heat transfer between the gas and the tank walls, and a valve is closed to stop the filling process...

Estimate the compressed air tank volume required to store an amount of energy equivalent to one gallon of gasoline if the air will be stored at a pressure of 3000 psia. Assume slow (constant temperature) compression, and use the higher heating value (gross calorific value) for gasoline (a.k.a. "petrol"). Submit your answer in gallons (enter numerical value only without units).

A sealed tank containing seawater to a height of 11.0 m also contains air above the water at a gauge pressure of 3.00 atm. Water flows out from the bottom through a small hole. How fast is this water moving? Is it true that the initial pressure is 3atm + 1atm, if so why? is it because when the container is sealed there is still air in it BEFORE you seal it. And then when you seal it you apply...

One mole of air is compressed from pressure P1 and temperature T1 at constant volume till its pressure is doubled. Then it is expanded reversibly and isothermally to the original pressure, and finally restored to the original temperature by cooling at constant pressure. Sketch the path followed by the gas, on a P-V diagram and calculate the net work done by the gas.
