A simple pendulum has a period of 0.777 s on Earth. What is its period on a planet on which the acceleration of gravity is 2.89 m/s2?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Gravitational acceleration on Earth = g1 = 9.81 m/s2

Length of the pendulum = L

Time period of the pendulum on Earth = T1 = 0.777 sec

Time period of a simple pendulum is given by,

Squaring both sides,

L = 0.15 m

Gravitational acceleration on the new planet = g2 = 2.89 m/s2

Time period of the pendulum on this new planet = T2

T2 = 1.43 sec

Time period of the pendulum on this new planet = 1.43 sec
