A transformer has 310 turns in the primary coil and 180 in the secondary coil.
a.By what factor does it change the voltage? Assume 100% efficiency.
b.By what factor does it change the current?
Express your answer using three significant figures.
Q1 (a)
Ans.-
Number of turns in Primary coil, Np = 310
Number of turns in Secondary coil, Ns = 180
Since, (Voltage in Secondary coil )/(Voltage in Primary coil ) = Vs/Vp = Ns/Np =180/310 =0.58
So, Voltage will change by a factor of 0.58.
(b)
From conservation of energy
VsIs=VpIp
so
Is/Ip =(Vp/Vs)=(Np/Ns)=(310/180)=1.72
So, Current will change by a factor of 1.72
