The fission of Uranium.

Two other possible ways by which 23592U can undergo fission when bombarded with a nuetron are (1) by the release of 14054Xe and 9438Sr as fission fragments and (2) by the release of   13250Sn and 10154Mo as fission fragments. In each case, nuetrons are also released. Find the number of nuetrons released in each of these events.

A 53 kiloton atomic bomb is fueled with pure 235U, 4.0% of which actually undergoes fission. (a) What is the mass of uranium in the bomb? (It is not 53 kilotons - that is the amount of released energy specified in terms of the mass of TNT required to produce the same amount of energy.) The molecular process that makes muscle contraction possible is that ATP binds to myosin, which releases the energy needed to make the muscle contract. In this problem, we will examine the quantities of energy involved in this process. Part 1 The reaction of ATP hydrolysis catalyzed by myosin (M) occurs in several steps*: M + ATP → M·ATP M·ATP → M·ADP·Pi M·ADP·Pi → M·ADP + Pi (aq) M·ADP → M + ADP * T. Kodama & R.C. Fact Suppose there are n distinct objects. There are (n above k) possible ways to remove k objects. You only need to express your answers in the “n-choose-k” notation. For the following questions, it might be helpful to rst write down the sample space. 1. There are 4 balls. Draw 2 balls. Each pair of balls is equally likely to be drawn. What is the probability that the outcomes are either (1, 2) or (1, 3)? 2. There are 4...
