What is a polaron? Explain how the concept of polarons results in unique attributes in 3 different organic electronic devices.
Polarons:
The type of quasi-particle which helps us to understand the interacrions between electrons and atoms in a solid material are called polarons. These classification of different interactions with different types of atoms present inside a material leads to knowing certain properties of that particular material.
A polaron is simply a combination of a defect state and a trapped electron inside a material. This whole combination moves with increased effective mass and decreased mobility ( that are different for other types of organic electronic devices).
As for as ac conductivity is concerned there is two types of hoping : single polaron hoping and bipolaron hoping. In single polaron hoping only one electron moves back and forth between two defect states whereas in bipolaron hoping two electrons hop simultaneously between two randomly created defect states.
